Summer Professional Development 2011

During this project, you will learn a new technology platform that will enhance your teaching next year. This project is essentially what we did last summer. So, try and think of something new that you can do. If you learned about a new project to do with your students, then maybe you will consider exploring a webinar, listserve, or blog that will benefit your teaching. Or vice versa. You choose! Have fun with it!

Use the LibGuide to help you.

By June 30th, please make note of what you will be doing. Add to the list with your name and what you will be doing.

As you work, take notes so that you can present to the department. We can figure out the presentation schedule later.

Post questions to the DISCUSSION tab on this page.

Name and project
Georgina -- webinars for foreign language teaching
Hannah-- glogster, VoiceThread, livebinders, and prezi. I want to explore each of these technological resources and work on ways that they can be used in the foreign language and ESL classrooms----> focus on glogster and VoiceThread mostly
Valerie -- SchoolSuite (updating library web pages), but I'll be participating in tons of webinars, listservs all summer too! Thanks for inviting me to your wiki, Georgina; it's been on my to do list to join, but the personal invite got me moving
Ali- I am exploring more ways to use my blog- I am working with voicethread to try to create a way to do oral testing/proper pronunciation assessment through pics I have uploaded from our textbook software: /Alinley's blog see the sp. 2 page for the voicethread I messed with.
Also through the use of podcasts I can post questions on my blog for the kids to listen to and use written responses to assess their "listening" skills.
Sara- I want to explore libguides, listerv, quizlet, webinars for FL and Smartboard to make more meaningful lessons.

Fran- I plan to join Kahn Academy and explore those resources and also plan to create xtranormal videos to supplement each Sp II chapter.

Sam--I plan to continue use of my wiki, and expand on some of the discussion-based assignments I used last year. Also, I will be using online quiz sites (like Sporcle), as well as vocab and history sites, in order to quiz kids on a wide range of topics, including grammar, syntax, history, and culture.

Thank you for posting this information. Hope that everyone is having a good vacation and finding this summer work enjoyable.

Presentation schedule

Anyone want to go first? I put myself first, but can change that if someone wants the first slot.

  1. Georgina will go first, during the faculty orientation department meeting time.
  • Not sure what the time allowance will be for our department meeting. Maybe two of us can go. I will check on this and post more information.

This is presenting just to dept, right? FMR

Yes, we will be presenting within our own department during orientation and department meetings.
